Green Abilities NI

Roughly 1 in 7 people are neurodiverse. That includes individuals with ADHD, dyslexia, dyspraxia, Asperger's Syndrome, or autism. While neurodiversity is an incredible asset to any workplace, employment rates for many neurodiverse people remain low. For example, only about 25% of autistic people are in full-time employment, even though over two-thirds of those unemployed want to work!

At the same time, Northern Ireland's (NI) maritime and offshore sectors, along with other green industries, are expanding rapidly. This creates a fantastic opportunity to connect talented, neurodiverse individuals with meaningful, well-paid jobs, helping to fill critical roles in our growing green economy.

That's where the Green Abilities NI project comes in!

This vital initiative aims to understand and develop a support program to help more neurodiverse people secure jobs requiring green skills. It's a collaborative effort between NI Maritime & Offshore (NIMO), the NOW Group, and Cornwall Marine Network.

We're tackling this challenge head-on by:

We're proud to be working with three fantastic local companies on this project: CASC Limited (Lisburn), Harland & Wolff (Belfast), and MJM Marine (Newry).

At its core, the Green Abilities NI project believes that by listening to the needs of neurodiverse people and working together, we can create a brighter, more inclusive future for everyone.
